Kentucky sees multiple accidents over the weekend

Police officials dealt with a number of car accidents across the state of Kentucky over the weekend.

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Friday, November 20 in Morehead, Kentucky and resulted in the death of one person. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Vanceburg resident Darrell Gilbert.

Kentucky State Police Officer Joe Veeneman said that Gilbert had been driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban along Kentucky Route 9 when he tried to overtake a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway and managing to collide with a 1998 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 46-year-old Maysville resident Jackie Sweet.

In a separate incident, Veeneman said that at around 3:19 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, a single-car accident was reported along Kentucky Route 158 in Morehead. Twenty-three-year-old Flemingsburg resident Michelle Gulley had been driving a 2001 Buick Century when, for some reason, her vehicle traversed the center line and struck the opposite side of the roadway.

A third accident occurred in Lewis County when 52-year-old Ewing resident Dereck Phillips was driving an all-terrain vehicle along the western part of the county on Saturday, November 21 and his vehicle suddenly overturned and rolled several times, according to a report from Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryon Walker.
