Asiana Airlines settles 72 injury claims from San Francisco crash

A settlement between Asiana Airlines Inc. and 72 passengers who filed personal injury claims has been reached, although dozens of remaining cases have yet to be resolved, the Salt Lake Tribune reported on March 18.

Two years ago, the Boeing 777 airplane owned by Asiana Airlines crashed its landing in San Francisco, resulting in three deaths and almost 200 wounded.

How much compensation was given to these injured victims was not disclosed in the court filing. According to reports, the people who had agreed to settlements were those who had less serious injuries.

Inherent complexities in the design of the Boeing 777 airplane has resulted in some blame placed on the aircraft-maker, while U.S. safety investigators believed that the pilots had committed errors that resulted in the crash.
