Driver charged in fatal vehicular accident says he was not intoxicated at the time of the crash

Twenty-four-year-old Mountain Lakes, New Jersey resident Bhavuk Uppal, was indicted in May 2016 on three counts of aggravated manslaughter and other charges in relation to a deadly crash that took the life of three people last summer. He said was not under the influence of alcohol and narcotics at the time, and made a not guilty plea in his arraignment during the last week of June.

According to preliminary investigations made by police authorities, Uppal had been speeding when he crashed into a car in front of him in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Rockaway Township on July 11, 2015, causing the death of three individuals and wounding two others in a chain-reaction crash.
