Kentucky implements stricter booster seat laws

Posted on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 at 1:57 pm

More stringent rules regarding mandatory booster seats for children riding in automobiles took effect in Kentucky on June 24, The Herald-Dispatch reported.

The previous rule required that children aged seven years and below, and 40-50 inches tall, ride in booster seats. The new law mandates that children must ride in a booster seat until they are eight, while the height requirement for children included in that bracket increased in range to 40-57 inches. These laws are meant to protect children in the event of a car accident.

Violators of the new rules will be subjected to a $30 fine or may be required to buy a booster seat form the police instead of paying the fine, Kentucky State Patrol officers said.

When children are involved in car accidents, the injuries they sustain may be devastating–even when a booster seat is used.
