Final Lawsuit Settled in 2009 Louisville Zoo Train Accident Case

A $6 million dollar settlement has been paid out by the city’s government to the remaining victims of a 2009 Louisville Zoo train accident. The train derailed and flipped on its side after turning a corner too fast, injuring 22 of the 29 on board.

Part of the $6 million lawsuit will be paid to Chris and Amanda Lankford and their two young children who were seriously injured during the train crash in June of 2009. The two children suffered head injuries, changing their lives drastically according to the married couple.

The zoo reopened the train in 2013 after implementing safety changes for the ride. This settlement marks the end of all existing legal actions related to the train crash, with previous lawsuits with 26 claimants totaling $662,449.
