Criminal charges have been filed against WHAS TV News reporter Jeffrey Woods for his part in a pedestrian accident that resulted in the death of Fontaine Jeffrey, 58, WDRB reported on April 9.

Jeffrey was hit at the intersection of Jefferson and Second Street in Louisville by tow truck driver Matthew Good and Woods. Good remained at the scene while Woods reportedly exited the news van, looked around at the scene, and left. Woods is charged with failing to stop and render aid, which is a Class D felony. According to reports, blood was found on all four tires of the news van Woods was driving.

Good has not been charged, although a wrongful death suit has been laid against Woods, Good, WHAS TV News, and the tow truck company Good works for.

Kentucky aims to stop predatory medical treatment providers

Kentucky is making an effort to crack down on automobile crash rings with the passage and implementation in June 2015 of House Bill 153, which deems it illegal to solicit an automobile accident victim for medical treatment within 30 days following the crash.

Insurance Institute of Kentucky executive director Mark Treesh said “unscrupulous providers” make a habit of contacting people involved in the accident, promising to pay them cash and then taking their personal injury protection benefits are used up–typically $10,000. This treatment may be inadequate and prevent victims from later getting the care they actually need with their personal injury protection.

National Insurance Crime Bureau member Tim Lynch said Louisville is in 10th place in the United States with these kinds of suspicious claims.
