Louisville family killed by intoxicated motorist

Posted on Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 at 10:10 am

According to an article from WDRB News, a family from Louisville, KY was killed on July 11 in a two-vehicle collision that was caused by a driver who was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

According to preliminary investigations, 22-year-old Bhavuk Uppal rear-ended a vehicle occupied by Briana Anderson, her fiancé Russell Hitt, and their child along Interstate 80 in New Jersey. The impact of the crash caused the family’s vehicle to slam into another vehicle and catch fire. The family was on their way back to Louisville after a trip to New York.

Uppal is currently facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, and death by automobile, among others. In an interview with NJ.com, police investigators also said that Uppal had been driving on a suspended license at the time of the incident and had 19 previous traffic violations, including speeding, using fake license plates, reckless driving, and unsafe driving.

Kentucky implements stricter booster seat laws

Posted on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 at 1:57 pm

More stringent rules regarding mandatory booster seats for children riding in automobiles took effect in Kentucky on June 24, The Herald-Dispatch reported.

The previous rule required that children aged seven years and below, and 40-50 inches tall, ride in booster seats. The new law mandates that children must ride in a booster seat until they are eight, while the height requirement for children included in that bracket increased in range to 40-57 inches. These laws are meant to protect children in the event of a car accident.

Violators of the new rules will be subjected to a $30 fine or may be required to buy a booster seat form the police instead of paying the fine, Kentucky State Patrol officers said.

When children are involved in car accidents, the injuries they sustain may be devastating–even when a booster seat is used. If your child has suffered due to the actions of a reckless driver, the legal team at the Sampson Law Firm may help you hold the responsible person accountable in court. Call us at (502) 584-5050 today to begin taking action.

Two fatal wrong-way accidents occurred on Watterson Expressway

Posted on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 at 10:54 am

Two wrong way drivers on the Watterson Expressway in Louisville caused two fatal car accidents within the same morning, according to WAVE 3 News on June 21.

The first vehicular accident happened at around 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-264 near the exit for Breckenridge Lane,  Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said. A man operating a Toyota Echo was traveling the wrong way down Interstate 264 when he hit a Jeep head-on. Although the Jeep occupants were not seriously injured, the driver of the Toyota Echo was killed in the accident, according to police reports.

Meanwhile, a report from Louisville MetroSafe showed that at around 6:45 a.m. about three exits down from the first accident, another fatal wrong-way wreck occurred. A woman in a black Jeep saw the traffic caused by the first accident and did a U-turn on the highway. Now driving the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of I-264, she hit a white Jeep near the Newburg exit. The collision resulted in the immediate death of the white Jeep driver.
